Star Wars III: Revenge of the Sith
Saturday, May 7th, 2005It will be opening on May 19. The final episode of this saga has an M15+ classification suitable for over 15 year olds. The film has been described as dark…
So how dark is Revenge of the Sith?
The first reviews suggest intense themes as well as events, with Jedi knights being slaughtered, a scene featuring children’s corpses and a character left to burn alive beside a lava river. The classifiers call it “moderate science fiction violence” in their advice to consumers.
Rick McCallum, the producer, said the movie centered on Anakin’s downward spiral.
“The film really just answers the how and why he makes the choices that lead to him turning to the dark side … But it’s not Bergman, really depressed. It’s a darker story in the sense that he gets to the gates of hell and decides he kind of likes the look of it and jumps in.”
Lucas told Associated Press the filmmakers have been getting flak from parents.
“A lot of people saying, ‘How can you do this? My children love these movies. Why can you not let them go see it?’ ” he said. “But I have to tell a story. I’m not making these, oddly enough, to be giant, successful blockbusters. I’m making them because I’m telling a story, and I have to tell the story I intended.”
Well, I’m glad he has decided to tell the story and not do another episode with characters like Jar Jar Binks in it!
For those of you who can’t remember who Jar Jar Binks was, he was the cartoon looking character with the big floppy ears and weird accent. He single handedly made a credible sci-fi film into a cartoon.
Star Wars III: Revenge of the Sith however, seems very promising indeed.
