I had to post this spectacular photo of the Space Shuttle Discovery streaking across the sky over Daytona Beach last Saturday. The location was about 80km north of the Kennedy Space Center. Amazing colours. Surreal imagery.

…with love

Tuesday, July 18th, 2006

I don’t know about you, but there is something not quite right about this picture. Getting kids involved with war in anyway is wrong in my opinion.

I came across these images today and I had to post it.

Imagine the stories this little mouse could tell it’s grandpups!

These images makes the tale of the German quarry manager surfing on the back of a crocodile to escape a tsunami in the 1880’s a little more plausible.

What a classic!

PACMAN: Forbidden Love

Sunday, July 24th, 2005

An amusing piece of artwork I came across at deviantART by SubterfugeMalaises titled: PACMAN: Forbidden Love.

Computer games don’t affect kids, I mean if Pac Man affected us as kids, we’d all be running around in darkened rooms, munching pills and listening to repetitive music.

Fancy a game of Pac-Man?

I saw this today in the local papers. Quite an accurate depiction don’t you think?

Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith

After eagerly awaiting the new Star Wars episode “Star Wars III: Revenge of the Sith”, I went to see it last night. Even though I had high expectations of the movie, I was not disappointed.

The story continues from where the last episode left off, with Anakin Skywalker maturing as a character. In this episode many things were explained that helps tie the whole Star Wars story together. If you’ve ever wondered why Darth Vader dresses the way he does, then all is explained in this episode.

I’ve always wondered about the scene in the original Star Wars where Obi-Wan Kenobi fights Darth Vader, then mysteriously disappears the split second before Darth Vader lands the killing blow with his light saber. Obviously, later on down the track, Obi-Wan Kenobi reappears with Anakin Skywalker, although both are quite insubstantial and ghostly.

What I’ve always tried to figure out was this: was Luke thinking “I see dead people…”, or were his Jedi Master, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and his Dad, Anakin Skywalker really there, reunited as friends…albeit in the ether world? As a kid, right up till last night, I’ve wondered about this. All I can say is this: now I know I can sleep nights.

So, what about the action? I’d have to say in this category, it was not lacking. What’s a sci-fi movie without talking about the effects? As usual George Lucas productions don’t disappoint when it comes to special effects. Scene after scene, there’s always something to keep you entertained or make you think.

Talk about making you think, I couldn’t help but pick up the underlying theme in this episode about war and it’s ugliness. Here are some memorable quotes from the movie…

  • “What if the democracy we thought we were serving no longer exists, and the Republic has become the very evil we have been fighting to destroy?”
    —Senator Amidala (Padme)
  • “Either you are with us or you are with the terrorists.” (Oops wrong quote…didn’t mean to quote Dubya).
  • “If you’re not with me, then you’re my enemy.”
“Only Sith deal in absolutes. I will do what I must.”
—Exchange between Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi (respectively), just before Anakin loses his marbles.

Is George Lucas trying to get the message across in a more tactful manner than Michael Moore did with his ‘FAHRENHEIT 9/11′? I don’t know. You decide.

Whatever you decide, there’s no denying “Star Wars III: Revenge of the Sith” will be one of the all-time greats. (Rated: 5/5)

Don’t Rock The Boat!

Thursday, March 31st, 2005

After returning from my travels and having a look through the photos, I’ve decided I might enter a photo into a competion the tour company (Intrepid) holds annually.

Essentially, the photo should capture a unique moment in my travels. These are just a few of of the photos that have made the shortlist.
